We truly believe in the importance and power of team building to improve productivity, increase motivation, encourage collaboration and build trust and respect among employees. Since BuyBay was founded, there have been countless and memorizable employee events, although last year was different. We arranged digital alternatives to keep the culture and team spirit alive but everybody was longing for real-life interaction and connections.
The party committee decided to postpone the annual BuyDay to the first possible date in 2021, and after a long wait the moment was finally there: we could celebrate and enjoy an amazing day full of team building, fun, and activities! As preparation, we shared some practical notes and the theme of the day was revealed: Expedition BuyDay! – the exact details remained a surprise.
The kick-off
On October 2, we welcomed everyone with drinks at the lakeside of the event location InnStyle, situated in Maarssen. InnStyle is a sustainable venue with a focus on nature, which makes it the perfect location for our event. We kicked off with an inspirational presentation of our CEO Arie and our Head of HR Suzanne. Arie spoke about the drive that working at a mission-driven company like BuyBay brings along and Suzanne held an interactive brainstorm session about our company values. The team members were asked to share their input and thoughts as we aim to create a company culture where everybody feels part of the bigger picture.
Expedition BuyDay!
After a delicious vegetarian lunch, it was time to reveal the program for the rest of the day: adventure! Armed with colored bandanas, a team flag, and an amulet as a joker, each team took on challenges in various trials. For example; a strength test, a fire test, and a coordination test. To encourage cross-functional team building we divided the employees into different teams and made sure that no one was placed with a direct colleague. Three hours full of communication, teamwork, and a healthy dose of competition brought us to the thrilling final. To see so many happy faces and new connections being made was amazing.
Say cheese
The best way to end such a wonderful day is with drinks and food! We enjoyed the final hours of the day in a relaxed atmosphere while sharing stories and connecting with our colleagues. There was a photo booth, plenty of good food and we closed the evening with live music where everyone sang along the (slightly cheesy) songs! As a souvenir of this great day, every BuyBay’er received a sustainable coffee cup and a nice and warm BuyDay sweater.

We received so many positive and enthusiastic reactions and we are beyond grateful that we could celebrate this day together with our valuable team members. The survey that was shared after the event pointed out that almost 90% of the BuyBay’ers will join us again next year and that this day had a very positive impact on the feeling of collaboration and teamwork. A company is built by the people that are working there and our employees are the most important asset.
We want to thank every BuyBay’er for sharing this special day with us and can’t wait for the coming events. Teamwork does make the dream work!
